Typically prospective foal insurance can be incepted when pregnancy is confirmed in foal, earliest from 42 days after the last service date and usually continues until the foal is born or reaches 30 days of age, even up to 6 months of age if required.
Prospective foal insurance provides coverage in the event of:
The mare losing the pregnancy
The foal being born dead
The foal is born live but fails to survive the period to the expiry date of the policy
The foal not reaching term due to death of the mare during pregnancy
Prospective foal insurance is one of the highest categories of bloodstock risk with the premium principally based on the age of the mare and her breeding history.
